#monk quests

Pushed rogue to ninja and pugilist to monk today, so I now have all my combat roles into the advanced classes except for thaumaturge/BM (level 21, and I’ll slog my way through a few dungeons this week to get that to 30).

I was really enjoying pugilist. The class does a *lot* of damage. But monk? I was ready to punch the guy I’ve been assigned to work with after the first words out of his mouth. “punch-prone maidservant”???? And it just went downhill from there. Every other word out of his mouth is an insult. Alphinaud at his worst never approached that level of arrogance. Hell, most enemy NPCs are more respectful than this. And from what I’m hearing, he never gets any better, unlike others like the bigoted Elezen in the archer quests who mostly gets over it.

If I’d started as a pugilist and run into this, it might have soured me on the game. Do I really have to work with this guy through 70? How many abilities will I miss out on if I can’t stomach him? Do I at least get to chew him out or deck him at some point???

Another sideprofile of my D&D character Sköll.

I drew this before the session last Wednesday, saying that this is what he'll look like in a few weeks if traumatic things just keep happening to the party and him. But after that session... I think the only thing that still has to happen is that his beard grows out more.

I love him dearly and he needs a proper hug badly.

okay medieval psychonauts au uhhhhhhh based in the 14th century (with some deviations for funsies) for that high medieval aesthetic. the psychonauts are a heretical monastic order. For all intents and purposes they can pretty much do everything they can in the game but their technology is limited. Instead of battling panic attacks and bad ideas etc the enemies spawn in the form of the four humors

there's still a concept of demons and possession because this is medieval europe where christianity had an effect on everything however the psychonauts have a slightly more modern mindset where they believe these demons are personal demons and not literal ones, however they do still "exorcise" (go into peoples heads and fix their shit like in the game) the personal demons

Maligula was a case of one of the members getting "possessed" and was unable to be exorcised. Helmut has been sainted for his efforts and subsequent death. Ford has become a hermit who lives in the woods and wears a hair shirt to atone for his sins. Cassie endlessly transcribes books for her atonement. Otto's still with the monastery making strange medieval inventions. Still figuring out the rest of them

Conflict around psychics in this universe comes from the belief that they're of the devil (hence the fact they have been labelled heretical)

Whispering Rock can be some sort of squire training i guess. maybe. what the fuck did kids even do in the medieval period i should probably know this but most of my knowledge comes from medieval texts and they never mention kids ever

The rains were an interesting part of this quest & I liked having ascetic monk actually be there for me to talk pictures of. This was their pilgrimage anyway, the rains added a nice element to each picture taken. Here are they for you to see.

I hadn’t noticed there was water on this mountain until the last leg of this quest so it was a nice surprise. Hope for more little details in later installments.

oh yeah btw i ended up getting very hooked in rain world but i expressed to my brother that i kinda want to play it but the game is very difficult / im bad at it so his conclusion is that i could try playing the rain world campaigns with the campaign characters as supposed but in co-op so he can go along to guide/help me. which probably isnt the right way to play but who give a shit. anyway im playing gourmand's campaign ^_^
